Our trip to Texas

I wanted to write a bit about our trip to Texas for our niece's high school graduation. Dan's sister, Lesann, her husband Marvin and their four girls, live in Umbarger, Texas - which is near Canyon - which is near Amarillo. The eldest daughter, Chelsea, just graduated from Canyon High School on May 25th and luckily, Dan and I were able to make it. We drove there with his parents last friday and met up with everyone that evening at the graduation cermony just up the street from our hotel. A whole bunch of people were there including all of the Bettinger family and the Hartman's entire family....aka: "lots of tall people." :)

We had a nice dinner and Chelsea received a lot of graduation gifts from everyone. She will start college at WTAMU in Canyon in August and will be staying in the dorms. She is just about to have the best time of her life and we know she will do very well.

We had fun out on their farm. The kids all had a chance to play with the rabbits, dogs and cats, they played volleyball, jumped on the trampoline, put on a show for us, fed the young calves, Blayne had a chance to chase a herd of cattle in the pen, there was also lots of great food and fun. Everyone was so nice. I was able to meet a lot of people I had heard of but never met in person until now.






We nearly adopted a sweet little kitty named "Clyde." We just wanted to take him home with us so badly. I think that if we didn't already have 4 cats, we would have. What a cutie! They also have a sweet cat named "Su-Lin" that was about ready to pop out a few more little kittens very soon. They also have a gorgeous white kitty named "Cutie" that gets to stay in the house - she's so pretty.



One afternoon, Dan, me, Phillip and Ellen decided to venture out to Palo Duro Canyon. It began to rain some as a storm blew in, but the colors and scenery were just beautiful. The temperature was nice - not too hot or too cold, and we were lucky it wasn't all that windy.




All in all, it was a very nice trip - a great chance to get out of Albuquerque for a while and enjoy the simple pleasures of small town and country life with family and friends.
