Yesterday started out like any other relaxing saturday would with a late breakfast and some tv as we tried to gear up for the day. As we sat down to enjoy our breakfast, a wofting aroma filled our senses, then to our horror, we noticed the long brown trails zig-zagging through the living room and the upstairs hallway. "Uh-oh" someone just tried to clean themselves on the newly steam cleaned carpet while we were making breakfast - who was the little culprit??
Ugh, the smell was getting stronger. It was the little girl. Of course, the one with the fluffiest hind end. Poor little thing was so uncomfortable. How did we not notice until it got to this stage. She'd always been groomed and shed-exed before, so this wasn't a problem until we moved here and got distracted by everything going on these last few months.
Dan cleaned as I looked in the yellow pages for a groomer. No one grooms cats around here and no one was open saturday anyway. Her little back end was atrocious and we didn't think we could handle that degree of mess. We got what we could off of her then shunned her to the upstairs bathroom 'til we could figure out what to do. Then we decided we had to bathe her ourselves and get her cleaned up and brushed out. We were really missing our groomers we had in Albuquerque at this point! They were convenient miracle workers for us.
We'd never given our cats baths and were expecting a feline furricane of fury, but no. She was grateful we were helping her and she just sat there in her indignity as we cleaned her up with baby shampoo, (and rubber gloves!) She was so good and patient, and all the while, her big brother Ringo was whaling at the closed door to know what was going on in there. He paced by the door until we could let her out after she dried off an hour or two later. Zip and Zap didn't seem to care at all. She's all better now, but what a morning we had. The day started out crappy, but did get better - in the end.
More on the rest of our day later.
....until we meet again.
