Our trip to North Carolina.

A couple years ago, while we were living in Virginia, we made a special trip out to North Carolina's Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, down to Cape Hatteras, - an area we fell in love with and would love to see again and again.  Last week, we went with Dad and Phoebe to see the other side of the state and the Asheville area.  No, we didn't see the Biltmore Estate...that will be a whole trip unto itself I am sure.

While Dad and Phoebe were here, we did a lot of work around the yard and garden, played with Molly and spent time on the back deck in the evenings.  They are about to embark upon a world wide journey by way of friends' and families' homes in Alabama, here in Tennessee, North Carolina and New York. From New York, they will be going on to Turkey and Mongolia...with quick layovers in London and Bejing along the way.

They invited us to join them on some of the North Carolina portion.  We stayed at a sweet little cottage tucked away in the mountains near Little Switzerland, NC and then we spent a day exploring the Asheville area.  I'll post more on Asheville tomorrow, until then, here we are on our way to NC as we followed them to the cottage.

In the morning, Dan, Molly and me just as we were leaving.

Dad, me, Molly and Phoebe just before we left.

A view of our house from the mailbox.

Molly saying Welcome To North Carolina.

Hugging on Daddy.

The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Following them and entering another tunnel.

Someone was sleepy.

Outside a shop in Little Switzerland...Molly found a hobby horse.

Loved these little shops...we ate at the restaurant at the far end.

The cottage we stayed at....so quaint and peaceful.  It belongs to a friend of Dad's and is often used by friends of theirs passing through.  They weren't there, so we had it all to ourselves...just stocked up on a few groceries, found the key and time to relax.

The cozy living room.

A relaxing sunroom near the kitchen and back deck.

The sunroom and dining area.

One of the bedrooms.

The master bedroom where we stayed also had a comfy couch for Molly to lay on.

The front porch.

Lawn area in the back.

Side yard with a pretty flowerbed and birdbath.

The perfect Christmas tree?

Statue in front yard near an area of ferns.

View from the back deck.

View of the valley on a trail across the street.

Entering Sherwood Forest?  The trail across the street from the cottage.

Molly and Grandpa Phil on the back deck one evening.

Pictures like this are why I carry that camera in my pocket ALL the time.  Moments happen and then evaporate into the past.  Gotta grab what you can and hold on.  They'll still slip away, but maybe not quite so fast?
