Our "harsh" Virginia winter

Last week, we had a bit of a cold snap with a dusting of frost and a few icicles here and there. The trees were coated with a pretty layer of ice, making them look like glass. It was a bit foggy too, as best seen in Dan's photos on the highway. Our neighborhood was so still and quiet that day. I was the only one outside on our street and it was so quiet that my footsteps on the crunchy grass seemed to be loud.

I've seen some my friend's photos of the very harsh winter storm that passed through Arkansas just before this. They had power outages and huge trees knocked down in their yard and it took hours to drive a short distance home from work. It must have been a nightmare and they are still cleaning up from the big mess. We are very fortunate to live in a strange little pocket here in the east that never got any bad weather. Everyone around us got hit with something, but we never did.







Here's a photo my friend Michele took in Fayetteville, AR after a bad ice storm they had last week. I'd say that's a bit worse than what we got, wouldn't you?
