Sleepless nights.

For various reasons, we have had many sleepless nights, or nights filled with strange dreams that wake us up. Not to mention, I also have to make about 5 or 6 trips to the bathroom...sleep is becoming elusive at best. But, the other night took the prize for sleepless nights from cat hell.

We finally decided things next door were quiet enough for us to get to bed around midnight or so. Our usually quiet and tranquil surroundings at this nice hotel suite were shattered by an athletic team - a bunch of high school or college age kids passing through. Luckily, they are gone now and quiet has returned.

Anyway, we get to sleep and then Ringo started his solo singing act. He just sat near the kitchen purring and howling away, maybe because the accoustics were better there, and he sang his song for a long time. Smacking his nose was only a mild distraction to him.

We finally got him to stop only to be awakened a few mintues later by Zip, our mountian climber. He decided that 2am would be prime time for climbing up on top of the fridge and knocking stuff over and thumping cabinet doors. I don't think Zip likes to walk on the floors...tables, chairs, laps in chairs, faces, arms, other cats are fine, but the floor, he doesn't like. This was very annoying, but the one that just blew our minds was little Miss Katrina! She is our burrower, the one who likes to hide inside and under things.

That night, she somehow managed to slit a 4 to 5 inch hole into the liner of the box spring and burrowed her way up into the maze of springs and coils. We laid there wondering what the heck that sound was - it was like mice in the wall but under us somehow. When Dan felt the lump of a warm cat body in the box spring, we had to take the whole bed apart to get her out, she became entangled in the springs in a panic to get out. When the bed came back down to the floor, I started to cry thinking she'd been crushed or killed...plus I was deliriously tired and lately hormonely off kilter anyway. Dan was worried (& mad) about what she'd done too. We cut numerous holes all over the lining to get her out and she was fine but totally scared by what happened.

Another problem was that some of the legs of the bed were broken, snapped off the disks, as we lifted it on its side. We really hope that no one notices the destruction when we move out. I put Katrina in her cage for the remainder of the night. So far, she hasn't tried this again. Let's hope she stays out of there from now on.

The burrower, the mountain climber and the solo singer are on our mad list. Meanwhile, Zap, "the puker", is doing fine, although, he is the one we have to shoo off the bed all the time. Right now, the boys are all laying on the couch and Katrina is on the chair, sleeping soundly. Little turds! I'm going to go over there and wake them all up just for the pure joy of annoying them back.
