The first house we looked at was very nice, but was lacking in a few things that we really liked. It would have been a nice home, but we decided to keep looking. Around the block was another one for the same price that had a lot more going for it. We really liked everything about it but kept on with looking at our other houses on our list. The third one was very cute on the outside on a very large lot, but the moment we walked inside, we knew it just wasn't for us. It needed a lot of work, and seemed dated and old. The layout of the floorplan wasn't quite what we wanted, plus the 2-car garage was detached. We went to the fourth house on our tour. It was a house we had seen a couple months ago at an open house, but we wanted to be reminded of how it looked...there had been some upgrades, changes in paint and so forth, but for the money, we might as well just go back to the house on Wanchese Way. This fourth house needed more work and was priced too high for us.
Our next thought was this: do we want to go down to Chester tomorrow and look at the houses we noted down there and confuse the matter more. We really did like that second house we saw today just fine the way it was and the price was doable. We decided to just go for it and make an offer on house 2 on today's tour, see what happens and call it a day.
This house had so many features we liked: it had a big back yard, laundry room upstairs, 2 master bedroom closets, all stainless steel appliances, beautiful paint colors inside and out, 4 bedrooms + a bonus room, 2.5 bathrooms...all in all a very nice comfy house that suits our needs and then some. It is also nearer to our price range than most homes we've seen. It is also convenient to shopping, schools, hospital (& doctors' offices), gas stations and restaurants.
After making the offer and signing our names on all that paperwork, we walked back out to the car and simultaneously said to each other: "So, do you want to go drive by it again?" Of course, we did, and then checked out the local stores and then went to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
A little while after returning "home" to our hotel room, the phone rang. We knew it was Nancy and she must have an answer for us...we answered and heard that our offer was nearly accepted, but with a few adjustments. The owners are still out of town for the holidays, so we made some verbal changes to the contract, will fax the changes back and forth tomorrow and hopefully be done with no glitches. It seems to be a win-win situation for both the sellers and for us. We are happy and so are they. Our closing date is December 21st - Merry Christmas a little early to us!!
We can hardly wait to move in next month and make this place our own.
One more thing:
If all goes well...our new address will be:
7957 Bear Grass Lane
Mechanicsville, VA 23111
